What are mini Goldendoodles and how big do mini Goldendoodles get?

Mini Goldendoodles are designer breeds of hybrid dogs that have been cross-bred from the breeds of Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle. These dogs are also known as Mini Groodles in some parts of the world.

It is not very popular as some of the other hybrid dogs; however, it is slowly attracting the attention of many dog lovers in recent times, because of its visual appeal and warm characteristics. We will know more about these in the later sections of this article.

Physical characteristics

Unlike most of the other dogs, the Goldendoodles don’t grow up to a specified height. Their height and weight depend on the physical attributes of the Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle that were used for cross-breeding.

A mini Goldendoodle is anywhere between 13 and 20 inches long. They weigh around 15 to 35 pounds.  There are two other classifications of Goldendoodle – the Small Standard and Large Standard.

The small standard Goldendoodle ranges between 17 and 20 inches in length and weighs in the range of 40 to 50 pounds. The large standard ranges between 20 and 24 inches in length and weighs in the range of 50 to 90 pounds!

The common way to assess the weight of a mini Goldendoodle or any other type of this designer breed of dog is to add the weights of the parents (Poodle & Golden Retriever) and divide the total by two.

Here are some of the top characteristics of the Mini Goldendoodle that you should be aware of, before buying one.

  1. No shedding issues

Though it is one of the recent breeds of hybrid dogs, the mini Goldendoodle has become quite popular in a short time because of one main feature – low-shedding.

More often than not, even if you love dogs, you may not have one at home, because you are allergic to pet hairs and fur lying all around your house. With this breed of dog, however, you will not face these issues at all.

They don’t shed much of their fur, regardless of whichever parent’s genes are found in a major level, in them. This is one of the biggest reasons, why these dogs can be your perfect companions, even if you have allergies. They are very low-maintenance pets, thereby making it a great choice for beginners and kids as well.

  1. Warm, social and loyal

If you get a mini Goldendoodle home, you should be ready to spend a lot of time with it. These are very warm and friendly dogs and are known for their social nature. They are family dogs and are very loyal to their owners. They feel depressed when you leave them alone for long durations.

When you have kids or other pets (such as cats or dogs) at home, you can trust the Mini Goldendoodle to get along with them easily.

  1. They cannot guard your homes

You can get the mini Goldendoodle for enjoying at home or as a great play-time company for your kid, but not for guarding your home. This hybrid dog is not a watchdog, as it cannot perform a task by itself.

Also, it is a very quiet dog, in that, it doesn’t bark a lot. Don’t be surprised when your dog doesn’t bark or make any sounds when there is somebody at your door or when he notices strangers near you.

  1. They are great to train

Since they are very social and active dogs, the mini Goldendoodles need to be given physical exercises of at least 30 minutes to 1 hour every day. If they don’t get their regular dose of exercises, they may fall sick.  One of the great features of this breed of dog is that it can be easily trained to do simple activities.

They are known for obeying rules and they are very disciplined, especially when you spend some time with them while teaching new tricks.

What to note before buying Goldendoodles

Since they are warm, friendly and perfect for people with allergies, do you think this dog would be the right choice for you? If yes, here are a couple of important points that you have to note:

1. The average height and weight of the mini Goldendoodles needn’t always be in the range that is mentioned in one of the earlier paragraphs in this article. It purely depends on the genes of either its parents.

If this designer hybrid breed has been created using a very long or very huge Golden Retriever or Mini Poodle, there are very high chances for your pet to be unusually heavy or tall.

2. If one of the parents had any existing medical conditions at the time of cross-breeding, the mini Goldendoodle could also inherit some of these ailments. Therefore, you should never resort to buying these pets from online pet stores or unauthorized pet dealers.

You should always choose certified dealers and breeders who first conduct a health check on these dogs before they sell it to you.
